A quotation

"The Supreme Court of the United States said Project MKUltra was all about 'the research and development of chemical, biological, and radiological materials capable of employment in clandestine operations to control human behavior.' In these conceptual times we drift away from such grotesque concerns into the shimmering daylight of intellectual material and constant spectacle. There are things to graze on, valleys to seek, and fauna to frolic with it, and yet the universal particularities are null. So much of the function of conceptual activity now is to monitor and beam out behaviours that can be employed for the extraction of capital gains: a particular universality. At the very least that is not the only function of conceptual activiy. This is still that old culture industry, but you really do see it in the composition of the photograph, snatched away to entice and promote, the chord-change-beat-&-timbre of the music, snatched away to entice and promote, and the perennial copy writer's way with a phrase, the language itself snatched away to entice and promote, damaging all the dependent arts. The awkward fit of these quaint terms in 'cutting-edge analysis' is no more than a kind of embarrassment at the fact that, indeed, we have been fooled again, continuously. All are designs that seek to introject a way of living entirely amenable to that which is, and have always been so. This would suggest not that nothing is but thinking makes it so but that it is just so. What disappears then is the pressing need to conceptualize the most complex, beautiful, easy, fully strained, and encompassing model of the human spectra and the negative images that drift all around it. So we come to the interfaces, as they first of all make the human universe a human's universe and then organize the universe of that relation for the human, professedly each one at a time. It stabilizes their presence with names and rights of accession, yet we know it is unable truly to control. There is a clear inadequacy and impotence, felt at all moments of the act, and it is precisely this that the entire energy of the act goes into making its users deny & repress the knowledge thereof, all together separate."
- Eucalyptus Thermopolide, the famous Australian dentist
